notes from the table: perseid
a starstruck evening ✨
I’m completely over the moon in love with the atmosphere at Perseid. At the risk of sounding cheesy, the stars aligned perfectly for our last date night. The lighting (soft, moody), the energy (sultry, elegant), and the cocktails are divine. And thanks to a generous gift card from my landlords, my boyfriend and I got to experience it all on our last date night.
Perseid is a new neighborhood bistro in Montrose helmed by Chef Aaron Bludorn, offering a Gulf Coast-inspired take on a classic bistro for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s Michelin Recommended and situated in this stunning space in the Hotel Saint Augustine, which also has a Michelin Key. Fun trivia fact: the hotel is modeled after Dominique de Menil’s living room. As in, French-American art collector, philanthropist, founder of the Menil Collection, and heiress to the Schlumberger oil fortune. No biggie!
The restaurant is named after the Perseids, a meteor shower visible from mid-July to late August. We were seated in a booth near the bar, all tufted velvet and warm wood under soft lighting. The vibe is sumptuous, the perfect spot to dress up and listen to ambient jazz while having your dinner. As we sat down, I immediately spotted a former coworker at the next table. We’re chatting with them when our very good friend walks past– also on date night with her husband! Obviously, we had to follow the universe’s signs and crash their table. Maybe it’s a little less romantic, but this is peak Houston dining culture. Even in one of the largest metropolitans in the US, everyone ends up knowing someone.
Now, for this particular date night, we opted to go for a dessert + drinks vibe at Perseid, so we didn’t sample the main food menu. But what we did order was so worth it. My cocktail was the Dreamcatcher, featuring Blanco tequila, sotol, grapefruit, pink peppercorn, and prickly pear soda. All classic Texas flavors and perfect for citrus season. Colin had the Walk in the Park with jasmine tea vodka, strawberry, tarragon, lemon, and Aperol. While I’m not an Aperol girlie, this combination actually worked! Floral but not perfume-y, herbaceous, and the lemon brightens things up.
But the real star of our menu selections was the Pot de Creme, which tasted exactly like s’mores. If I could recreate the toasted meringue, coffee caramel drizzle, and churned milk sorbet on my own and enjoy it in front of the bonfire, I would be in serious trouble. Now, I’ll offer you some photos but unfortunately, my iPhone photography skills are not up to par with Apple’s commercials.

One of my new year's resolutions was to lean back into my woo-woo habits. I am a big astrology and tarot person (yes, I offer services, so feel free to ask!) so going to a restaurant named after the Perseids felt like an appropriate start to the resolution. To continue this astrological and cocktail journey, I’m planning on visiting Bar Moon, the intimate cocktail lounge above Tavola. The Cosmos signature cocktail is calling my name and I intend to answer.

Great vibes all around, I really want to check out their dinner menu!
oh this sounds like a witchy divine dream date!!!!
